What to Expect

As a new client of ours, you can expect our full attention to you and your pet’s needs.

When you arrive for your appointment, you will be greeted by our friendly reception team, who will first weigh your pet and ensure we have the correct information on file. You will then be shown to an examination room as soon as one is available.*

Once in the exam room, your veterinarian or registered veterinary technologist will take a history and discuss any concerns you may have. Depending on your pet, the reason for the visit, and any procedures or treatments required, your pet may be examined in the room with you or taken to our treatment area.

Following the examination, your veterinary team will discuss their findings, answer your questions, and recommend any further diagnostics or treatments. We will work with you to develop a plan that considers both your pet’s needs and your individual budget. Please see our Financial Support & Financing page to review available options for financial assistance.

Our reception team will then assist with billing and schedule any necessary follow-up appointments.

*While it is our goal to see all clients and patients on time, unexpected emergencies can occasionally cause delays. We do our best to minimize these delays and appreciate your patience when they occur. Should there be a delay, coffee and tea are available in our reception area, and you are welcome to browse our retail area while you wait. Whenever possible, we will also try to contact you in advance if a significant delay is expected.

We are excited to meet you and your animal family members and are happy to answer any questions you may have about veterinary care or our clinics here in Central Alberta!

Elective Surgeries

We understand that surgery can be stressful for both pets and their owners. At Pioneer Veterinary Services, our experienced and compassionate team is committed to keeping your pet safe, comfortable, and carefully monitored throughout their procedure.

Before Surgery

You will be provided with a scheduled drop-off time when booking your pet’s surgery.

One of our Registered Veterinary Technologists (RVTs) will meet with you to review your pet’s medical history, surgical questionnaire, and consent forms. This process typically takes 10–20 minutes, so please plan your morning accordingly.

Please follow the fasting and medication instructions provided by our team before your pet’s procedure. If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to contact us.

During Surgery

Your pet’s safety and comfort are our priorities. Our veterinary team performs a physical examination and appropriate pre-anesthetic testing, carefully monitors your pet throughout their procedure, and provides pain management during recovery.

Please ensure we have a current phone number where you can be reached throughout the day in case our team needs to contact you.

Going Home

Once your pet’s surgery is complete and they are recovering, our team will contact you to arrange a discharge time.

At discharge, one of our Registered Veterinary Technologists or veterinarians will review your pet’s home-care instructions, medications, and any necessary follow-up care. We are always happy to answer any questions you may have!

If you have any questions or concerns before your pet’s surgery, please contact either of our clinics. We’re here to help!
